Show Notes

0:00: Justin and Helen actually discuss what they’ve been up to over the past two weeks! Well, aside from being busy with work, as Helen talks about watching the first two episodes of the TWEWY anime, while Justin doesn’t explain how he was able to read 11 volumes of How a Realist Hero Rebuilt the Kingdom in the last two weeks. Oh, but he does explain his continued Bookworm obsession now that he’s reading Part 3!

Pandemic News

14:29: Japan is now in another State of Emergency, which is now resulting in the following titles being delayed:

Godzilla vs Kong (Now delayed indefinitely)
2nd Kakegurui live-action film (Delayed from April 29 to May 12)
The final Eureka Seven film (Delayed from early summer release to Fall)
2021 Crayon Shin-chan (Delayed indefinitely)
Earwig and the Witch (Delayed indefinitely)

The two hosts also talk about the Olympics and how the signs seem to point that it shouldn’t be happening, but they’ll try and do it anyways. And in a last bit of pandemic news, AnimeFest in Dallas is canceling its physical convention and will instead go virtual.

19:22: The two hosts have talked about manga sales for a while…and are still talking about since it’s been doing well to start 2021!

20:41: Kadokawa has acquired J-Novel Club, which leads Justin and Helen to wonder how much this is going to impact light novels moving forward.

24:13: Kodansha’s somewhat at it again! The Dawn of the Witch, which is called a sequel to Grimoire of Zero, is getting an anime. The manga Kodansha’s publishing is based off a light novel, but it remains interesting what gets licensed and what becomes an anime so soon.

25:50: Macross could actually become a thing?!?! Helen breaks down what could be one of the biggest news regarding this franchise — we’ll see anime from this franchise getting proper releases!

29:04: Madoka is back! There will be a sequel to Puella Magi Madoka Magica The Movie Part 3: Rebellion, which means Justin is going to have to find a way to somehow watch it.

31:10: Demon Slayer: Mugen Train is now has the highest opening weekend earnings ever for a foreign-language film in the United States, so needless to say, that series keeps breaking records.

34:15: Some sad news to report: ParaKiss and BECK director Osamu Koyabashi passed away at 57, and we send our condolences to his family and friends.

Licenses

35:31: Unexpectedly, way back in 2020 Anne Ishii revealed that she was translating a new Gengoroh Tagame work: Our Colors, which is planned to be published by Pantheon this year. The two hosts discuss this news.

37:19: It finally happened…VIZ and Marvel are partnering up! This partnership first kicks off with the release of the following titles:

Nao Fuji’s Marvel MeowSanshirou Kasama & Hikaru Uesugi’s Deadpool: SamuraiKazuki Takahashi’s Secret Reverse one-shot

39:40: Appears Sentai is leaning into acquiring more anime for digital consumption, as they now have the rights to My Little Monster in that format; Meanwhile NANA is now available to watch on HIDIVE.

41:02: Yen Press took to Twitter and announced they’ve licensed the following titles:

Streaming News

43:34: Retrocrush continues to hurt Helen by streaming the following titles but not Saiunkoku:

Star Ocean EX (May 7)Barefoot Gen & Barefoot Gen 2 (May 14)The Law of Ueki (May 14)Nutcracker Fantasy (May 21)Star Fleet (Super Space Machine X Bomber) (May 28)NG Knight Lamune & 40 (TV and OVA), VS Knight Lamune & 40 Fresh, and VS Lamune & 40 Fire (May 28)

Weird News

47:41: We have a chance to see some WWE wrestlers in anime form…on Crunchyroll! WWE President and Chief Revenue Officer Nick Khan confirmed in a podcast that they did sell a multi-episode series to CR, so yes, it’s finally going to happen, and there’s certainly people who will love to see this.

48:20: Some neat news in the weird section: Demon Slayer Mugen Train ads on the Metro Rail in LA. Now some bad business news that’s weird: the film being briefly available on the PlayStation Store. The hosts can only fear the worst regarding whoever accidentally made it available then.

50:11: A wild and sad story regarding an anime that’s now been cancelled…since the production company coerced the voice actors to pay for the DVDs of it!

51:47: An episode of the new season of How NOT to Summon a Demon Lord has VTuber Pekora in the background of that episode. Ok, more look-a-like than anything, but this did not make the ones managing Pekora pleased, and the production committee for the anime did make an apology regarding this.

53:08: Meanwhile while that was an unofficial debut, Sagiri from Zombieland Saga made an official VTuber debut, which gets the two hosts to question how this has suddenly exploded in popularity.

54:58: It finally happened. All 1,000 units of The Legend of The Galactic Heroes Premium Box Set…has been bought. The two hosts have already figured out how this happened!

Late News that Justin Remembered Section

58:41: Something Justin forgot to add in the main script: Eto Mori’s Colorful novel will be getting an English release this July.
